Prayer for Your Enemy

Praying for someone who has hurt you is one of the hardest things Jesus asks. These prayers help you obey that command honestly and without pretending the pain is not real.

A Prayer When Forgiving My Enemy Feels Impossible

Lord, I am going to be honest with You because there is no point in pretending: I do not want to pray for this person. What they did hurt, and part of me wants them to feel the weight of it. But You said in Matthew 5:44, "Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you." So here I am, not because I feel like it, but because I trust You more than I trust my feelings. I choose to forgive. Not because what they did was okay, but because holding onto this poison is killing me and not them. Break the chains of bitterness around my heart. I do not have the strength to do this on my own, so I need You to do the heavy lifting. Replace my anger with the supernatural peace that passes understanding from Philippians 4:7. I release this person into Your hands. Their judgment is not my job. Free me. In Jesus' name, Amen.

A Prayer for God to Change My Enemy's Heart

Father, I am asking You to do something that only You can do: change the heart of someone who has caused real damage. I do not understand why they do what they do, but You do. You see the wounds and the brokenness that drive their behavior. Ezekiel 36:26 says You can remove the heart of stone and give a heart of flesh. Do that for this person. Soften what is hard. Heal what is broken. Open their eyes to the pain they have caused, not to crush them with guilt but to lead them to genuine repentance. If there is trauma in their past that fuels their cruelty, bring healing to those deep places. Send people into their life who reflect Your love. I do not know if I will ever see the change this side of heaven, but I am trusting that You are at work even when I cannot see it. Do what only You can do. In Jesus' name, Amen.

A Prayer for Protection from Those Who Mean Me Harm

God, I need You to be my defender. There is someone in my life who seems intent on tearing me down, undermining me, or causing me harm. I am tired of looking over my shoulder and tired of the anxiety that comes with it. Psalm 59:1 says, "Deliver me from my enemies, O God; be my fortress against those who attack me." Be my fortress today. I am choosing not to retaliate because Romans 12:19 says vengeance belongs to You. But I am asking for Your protection in the meantime. Guard my reputation from lies. Guard my family from collateral damage. Guard my heart from becoming hard and suspicious. Give me wisdom to know when to speak and when to stay silent, when to engage and when to walk away. Surround me with people who speak truth and stand with me. I do not need to fight this battle because You are fighting it for me. In Jesus' name, Amen.

A Prayer for Peace in a Broken Relationship

Lord, this relationship is shattered, and I do not know if it can be repaired. Maybe it should not be. But I do know that You are the God of reconciliation, and if there is a path to peace, I want to find it. Romans 12:18 says, "If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone." Show me what depends on me and give me the courage to do my part. If reconciliation is possible, soften both hearts and create an opening for honest conversation. If it is not safe or wise to restore this relationship, then give me the peace to let it go without guilt. Either way, free me from replaying conversations in my head and rehearsing arguments I will never have. Heal the parts of me that this conflict has wounded. Let me walk away from this season with a clean conscience and a heart that is free, not bitter. You are the Prince of Peace. Bring peace. In Jesus' name, Amen.
