The two don't conflict—rather, spiritual insight helps you understand what physical events mean and how to respond to them wisely.
Throughout Scripture, believers who developed spiritual eyes saw things others missed. Elisha's servant couldn't see the angelic army surrounding them until Elisha prayed for his eyes to be opened. Peter didn't recognize that Cornelius was a divine appointment until the vision opened his eyes. Philip didn't know why the Spirit sent him to the Ethiopian eunuch until he arrived and discovered a prepared heart ready to hear the gospel. These stories demonstrate that spiritual eyes perceive connections and purposes others miss.
Developing spiritual eyes involves growth and maturity. Young believers often need teaching and counsel to understand what they're perceiving. Mature believers develop intuition about spiritual matters—they sense God's leading without having to analyze every detail. The progression is natural as you spend time in God's presence, in Scripture, and in fellowship with mature believers.
The beauty of spiritual eyes is that they reveal a world far richer and more meaningful than pure materialism offers. You begin to see that events aren't random but ordered by God. You see that people aren't just bodies and minds but eternal souls. You see that history isn't chaos but the unfolding of God's redemptive purposes. This vision transforms how you live.
Test it. Does it align with Scripture? Do mature believers confirm it? Does it produce spiritual fruit? Does it lead to obedience and love? Real spiritual insight from God will align with His Word and character. Imagination often conflicts with Scripture or produces doubt and fear.
You can ask God to open them. Many don't recognize spiritual reality because they haven't expected to perceive it. Ask God explicitly to enlighten the eyes of your heart. Start looking for His hand in circumstances. Expect to see His activity. Your expectation shapes your perception.
