Prayer for Anxiety

Anxiety doesn't have to have the last word. Bring your racing thoughts and tight chest to God, who promises a peace that surpasses understanding. These prayers meet you right where you are.

A Prayer When Anxiety Feels Like It's Winning

God, I feel like anxiety is sitting on my chest right now. My heart is racing, my thoughts are spiraling, and I can't seem to catch my breath. I know You tell me in Philippians 4:6 to be anxious for nothing, but right now it feels like everything. I'm not asking You to judge me for feeling this way. I'm asking You to meet me in it. You know my frame. You know I'm dust, as Psalm 103:14 says, and You still choose compassion over criticism. So be compassionate with me right now. Slow down my breathing. Loosen the tightness in my body. Remind me that this feeling is temporary, even though it feels permanent. I don't need to figure out every worst-case scenario. I just need to know You are here. And You are. Isaiah 41:10 says do not fear, for You are with me; do not be dismayed, for You are my God. You will strengthen me and help me. I receive that now. In Jesus' name, Amen.

A Prayer for Anxiety About the Future

Lord, I keep trying to live in a tomorrow that hasn't arrived yet, and it's stealing my peace today. What if things don't work out? What if I fail? What if the worst happens? These questions circle my mind like vultures, and I'm exhausted from trying to answer them. But Jesus, You spoke directly to this in Matthew 6:34 when You said not to worry about tomorrow, because tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. You weren't dismissing my concerns — You were freeing me from carrying weight that doesn't belong to today. So I'm putting down tomorrow's problems. I'm putting down next month's uncertainties. I'm choosing to trust that the God who has been faithful in every past chapter will be faithful in the next one too. Jeremiah 29:11 promises You have plans to prosper me and not to harm me, plans to give me a hope and a future. I trust Your plans more than my fears. Help me stay in today. In Jesus' name, Amen.

A Prayer When Anxiety Hits in the Middle of the Night

Father, it's the middle of the night and I'm wide awake with worry. Everyone else is sleeping and it feels like I'm the only person in the world carrying this weight. The darkness makes everything scarier, and my mind is creating problems that may never exist. But You are the God who never sleeps. Psalm 121:4 says You who watch over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep, and that means You are wide awake with me right now. I'm not alone in this room. I'm not alone in this fear. Speak to my anxious heart the way You spoke to the storm in Mark 4:39 — peace, be still. I need that authority over the chaos inside me. I can't think my way out of this spiral, but You can lift me out of it. As Psalm 34:4 says, I sought the Lord and He answered me; He delivered me from all my fears. I'm seeking You now, in the dark, in the quiet. Deliver me from this fear and give me rest. In Jesus' name, Amen.

A Prayer for Anxiety That Won't Let You Focus

God, I have things to do today but anxiety has hijacked my brain. I can't concentrate. I can't think clearly. I'm staring at the same screen, the same task, the same sentence, and nothing is registering because my mind is somewhere else — somewhere worried. I need You to be my anchor right now. Isaiah 26:3 says You will keep in perfect peace the one whose mind is steadfast, because they trust in You. My mind isn't steadfast right now. It's scattered and frantic. So I'm not going to pretend I have it together. Instead, I'm fixing my eyes on You. Every time my thoughts start to spiral, I'll whisper Your name. Every time the what-ifs return, I'll remember that 2 Timothy 1:7 says You have not given me a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind. That sound mind is mine — I'm claiming it. Help me take the next small step. Just one task. Just one breath. You'll carry the rest. In Jesus' name, Amen.
