Prayer for Guidance

When the path ahead feels unclear, God promises to direct your steps. These prayers will help you seek His wisdom, surrender your plans, and trust His leading.

A Prayer When You Don't Know What to Do Next

Lord, I'm standing at a crossroads and I genuinely don't know which way to go. Both paths seem reasonable. Both have risks. And I'm terrified of choosing wrong. But Proverbs 3:5-6 tells me to trust in You with all my heart and lean not on my own understanding, and in all my ways to acknowledge You, and You will make my paths straight. So I'm acknowledging You right now. I don't have the wisdom to figure this out on my own, and I'm done pretending I do. James 1:5 says if anyone lacks wisdom, they should ask You, who gives generously to all without finding fault. I'm asking. Generously. Without holding back. Show me the next step — not the whole staircase, just the next step. Open the right doors and close the wrong ones so clearly that I can't miss it. And if I'm being honest, give me the courage to walk through the door You open, even if it's not the one I expected. I trust Your direction more than my instincts. Lead me. In Jesus' name, Amen.

A Prayer for Guidance in a Career Decision

Father, I'm facing a decision about my work and I want to get it right — not just for my career, but for my calling. I know You care about what I do from nine to five as much as what I do on Sunday. Every skill You gave me, every opportunity You opened — it all has purpose. But right now I can't see which direction serves that purpose best. Psalm 32:8 says You will instruct me and teach me in the way I should go, and You will counsel me with Your loving eye upon me. I need that counsel now. Help me separate my ambition from Your assignment. Not every promotion is from You, and not every closed door is a setback. Give me discernment to know the difference. Remove the noise of comparison and what other people think I should do. Colossians 3:23 reminds me to work at whatever I do with all my heart, as working for You, not for human masters. Point me to the place where my work becomes worship, and I'll go there gladly. In Jesus' name, Amen.

A Prayer for Guidance in a Relationship

God, I need Your wisdom about a relationship in my life, and I'm afraid my emotions are too loud to hear You clearly. I care about this person, but I'm not sure if what I'm feeling is leading me toward Your will or away from it. Would You cut through the confusion? Proverbs 4:23 says to guard my heart above all else, for everything I do flows from it. So I'm asking You to be the guard. Protect me from settling for less than what You have for me, but also protect me from running away from something good out of fear. Show me this person's character clearly — not through rose-colored glasses and not through the lens of past wounds. Give me patience to let the relationship unfold at Your pace instead of forcing it at mine. And if this isn't the person or the season You have in mind, give me the grace to accept that without bitterness. As Psalm 37:4 says, when I delight myself in You, You will give me the desires of my heart. Align my desires with Yours. In Jesus' name, Amen.

A Prayer When God Feels Silent

Lord, I've been praying and listening and waiting, and I feel like I'm talking into the void. The silence is disorienting. I expected a clear answer — a sign, a feeling, a word — and instead there's quiet. I'm starting to wonder if I'm doing something wrong, or if You're upset with me, or if You've moved on. But I know from Deuteronomy 31:6 that You will never leave me or forsake me. Your silence isn't absence. Maybe You're building my trust in the quiet the way You build a tree's roots in the dark — unseen but essential. Maybe the silence is the answer, and You're telling me to stay where I am for now. Psalm 46:10 says to be still and know that You are God. I don't want to be still. I want to move. But if stillness is what You're asking, I'll practice it — imperfectly, reluctantly, but faithfully. Keep me from making rash decisions just to escape the discomfort of not knowing. As Isaiah 30:21 promises, my ears will hear a voice behind me saying this is the way, walk in it. I'm listening. In Jesus' name, Amen.
