A Prayer for Baby Dedication

God, I am holding this tiny life and I am overwhelmed. This child is mine and yet this child is Yours first. I've been entrusted with this precious soul, and the weight of that responsibility is both beautiful and terrifying. I'm committing today to raise this child in Your love and truth. I'm promising to teach them about Jesus, to model faith, to guide them toward knowing You. But I also know that I cannot save them or perfect them or guarantee their choices. So I'm offering them back to You the way Hannah offered Samuel — trusting You with their ultimate purpose and destiny. Guard this child. Guide this child. Use this child according to Your plans. And help me be the parent they need. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Father, I never knew I could love someone this much before they even opened their eyes. This tiny person has completely undone me. I'm looking down at this child and I'm praying prayers I never knew how to pray before. Help me be patient. Help me be present. Help me not let the exhaustion and overwhelm make me miss the miracle that's happening right in front of me. Give me wisdom to know when they need comfort versus when they need to learn to soothe themselves. Give me grace for the days when I get it wrong. Give me help when I feel like I'm drowning. Surround me with people who will support us, pray for us, remind us we're doing okay. This is the biggest responsibility I've ever had, and I'm asking for Your help every single day. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Lord, I've been asked to be a godparent to this child. This is a sacred trust. I'm promising to walk alongside this family, to be a spiritual influence in this child's life, to step in if something ever happens to the parents. I'm committing to pray for this child, to speak faith into them, to model what it means to follow Jesus. Help me take this responsibility seriously. Help me be reliable and faithful. Help me love this child with a parent-like devotion but respect the boundary that their actual parents are the primary authorities. Use me in this child's life for Your glory. Help me point them toward Jesus in both word and deed. In Jesus' name, Amen.

God, this child's story didn't begin the way we imagined. There was pain, struggle, heartbreak, or loss surrounding their arrival. Maybe this is a child born into hard circumstances. Maybe this is a child who came through medical complications. Maybe this is a child who came into a family experiencing grief. But God, You said in Jeremiah 29:11 that You have plans for this child — plans to prosper them and not to harm them. I'm dedicating this child to You, trusting that You can redeem their story. I'm asking that You use what was meant for harm toward their ultimate good. Guard their heart. Heal what needs healing. Let them grow up knowing they are loved and wanted and that their life has purpose. In Jesus' name, Amen.

God, we are here today to witness the dedication of this child. We come as a faith community to stand with these parents and affirm them in their commitment to raise this child in faith. We're promising to be part of this village that will help raise this child. We'll pray for them. We'll love them. We'll point them toward Jesus. We'll celebrate their milestones and hold their family up in prayer through challenges. This child belongs to this church family as well as their biological family. Bless this child with a community that speaks faith and love into their life. Bless these parents with people who will support, pray for, and encourage them. Let this community be a visible expression of God's love and care for this precious family. In Jesus' name, Amen.
