A Prayer for Gambling Addiction

God, I have done something unforgivable. I gambled away money that my family needed. Money for the mortgage. Money for food. Money for medicine. Money for school. And I did not gamble recklessly in a moment of weakness — I did it repeatedly, knowing what I was doing, unable to stop even as I watched my family's security disappear. The guilt is crushing. The shame is suffocating. My spouse is furious. My children are afraid. And I am terrified of losing everything. I cannot undo what I have done. I cannot restore what I have lost. But I am asking You to do what I cannot do. Restore our family's financial stability. Provide for our needs. And change me so thoroughly that I never return to gambling. Not because I fear losing everything again but because I love my family more than I love the false hope that gambling offers. Give me humility to accept help. Give me discipline to resist temptation. And if possible, give me a path toward restoring trust. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Lord, tonight there is a game. There are poker tables. There are betting apps. There are lottery tickets waiting to be bought. And the compulsion is building in me. My mind is already calculating odds and imagining winnings. My hands are already reaching for my wallet. This is the moment where I either break the cycle or continue it. I need Your power right now. Not next week when I am ready to quit. Not after one more big win. Right now. Give me the strength to walk away. Give me something to do with my hands and my mind besides gambling. Call someone who will pray with me. Text an accountability partner. Do anything that breaks the momentum of this compulsion. And as Philippians 4:19 says, remind me that my God meets all my needs — not through games of chance but through His sure provision. Do not let me gamble tonight. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Father, I have lost so much money to gambling. Thousands of dollars. Tens of thousands. Money that could have been invested, saved, given away. Money that belonged partly to God and partly to people I love. I cannot recover those losses through willpower or work alone. But I am praying that You would restore what I have lost through Your miraculous provision. I am not asking for luck or a big winning streak. I am asking for supernatural blessing on my legitimate work. I am asking for unexpected bonuses, inheritances, opportunities, provisions that I did not see coming. I am asking that as I turn away from gambling, You would turn toward me with abundance. And I am also asking for wisdom about how to steward anything You provide so that I do not squander it again. Help me rebuild. Help me restore. Help me become someone worthy of the provision You give. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Lord, I am exhausted. My spouse gambles away our money while I work to replace it. They lie about how much they have lost. They hide credit card bills and loan documents. They promise change and break the promise. I feel betrayed. I feel controlled. I feel angry at them and ashamed for staying. I do not know how much longer I can endure this. I am asking for wisdom about what to do. If there is hope for recovery in my spouse, let them find it. Let them reach the point of desperation where they are willing to change. But if my spouse will not change, give me courage to do what is necessary to protect our family and myself. Give me boundaries I can maintain even when guilt tries to undermine them. God, I gamble because I am trying to control my financial future. I am afraid that my work will not be enough, that my savings will run out, that something catastrophic will happen and I will be unable to provide. Gambling feels like taking control back. It feels like I am doing something instead of just trusting. But gambling has shown me that I cannot control anything. I cannot control the outcome of a game. I cannot control the compulsion that overrides my rational mind. I cannot control the consequences that ripple out to affect everyone I love. So I am surrendering my illusion of control to You. I am admitting that I was never in control anyway. I am trusting Philippians 4:19 — that You will meet all my needs. Not through games of chance but through Your provision and my faithful work.
