A Prayer for Generosity

Something inside me clenches when I'm asked to give. There's a voice that whispers: "But what if you need this later? What if you don't have enough? What if..." The voice of scarcity is louder than the voice of faith. I give from my leftover instead of from my first. I give what doesn't cost me anything. God, expand my trust. Help me understand that when I give cheerfully, even when it makes me uncomfortable, I'm participating in something miraculous. I'm testing the principle of multiplication. I'm stepping out of fear and into faith. Give me a generous spirit that is not afraid to be reduced. Show me that my provision comes from You, not from my possession. Help me give until it feels good, not until it feels safe. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Every dollar is accounted for right now. I have exactly enough if I'm careful, and if anything goes wrong, I'm in trouble. And You're asking me to give ten percent? It feels reckless. It feels irresponsible. It feels like I'm asking my family to go without. But You've asked, and I sense that the step of faith is to tithe anyway. God, I'm choosing to honor You with the first of my increase instead of the last. I'm acknowledging that it's all Yours and I'm just managing what You've given me. As I release this money, I'm asking for Your supernatural provision. I'm asking that what remains would somehow be enough. I'm asking that You would prove Yourself faithful. I'm tithing by faith. I'm generous with my money sometimes, but my time? That I guard ferociously. I say I'm too busy, too tired, too scheduled. I have my commitments and my margin is zero. But generosity isn't just about finances—it's about opening myself to others. It's about time, attention, presence. Someone needs me and instead of giving them my best, I give them my scraps. God, make me generous with my time. Help me see that when I'm too busy for people, I'm too busy. Teach me to be interrupted, to say yes when I want to say no, to give time when time is what I'm afraid of losing most. Help me understand that the time I give is never wasted, never lost—it multiplies in ways I'll never fully see. Make me someone who has time for the people in front of me. In Jesus' name, Amen.

I live as if there's not enough. Not enough money, not enough love, not enough opportunity. As if life is a zero-sum game where your gain is my loss. So I hold tight. I hoard. I protect what's mine. I'm suspicious when others do well because it feels like it diminishes me. God, I'm trapped by a scarcity mindset that doesn't reflect Your kingdom at all. You don't dole out blessing in limited supply. Your abundance is limitless. Break this lie that the world's goods are finite and I have to fight for my share. Help me see from Your perspective—that generosity creates more, not less. That when I give, I'm not depleting; I'm multiplying. That Your kingdom isn't about winning at someone else's expense. Help me move from scarcity to abundance, from fear to faith. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Jesus said it's more blessed to give than to receive. But if that's true, why does giving feel so hard sometimes? Why does it feel like loss instead of blessing? I want to experience the joy He talked about. I want to know the happiness that comes from opening my hand. So I'm asking You to transform my heart around giving. Let me feel the joy of providing for someone in need. Let me taste the satisfaction of participating in Your work. Let me discover that generosity is not a duty I'm obligated to but a delight I get to experience. Give me the joy that Jesus promised. Make me radically generous because I've encountered it.
