Conversion is a one-time event when a non-believer becomes a Christian through faith in Jesus. Renewal is the ongoing process of believers returning to spiritual vitality after periods of dryness or compromise. Both require the Holy Spirit's work; conversion brings initial salvation while renewal restores joy, power, and intimacy with God.
Signs include: loss of prayer passion, Bible reading becoming mechanical, diminished joy, increasing compromise with worldly values, critical or judgmental spirit, decreased evangelistic concern, unresolved anger or bitterness, and spiritual dryness despite outward religious activity. If you're going through spiritual motions without heart engagement, renewal is needed.
