A Prayer for Wedding

God, today is the day. My heart is so full it feels like it might burst. I'm terrified and joyful and overwhelmed all at once. I keep cycling through emotions — excitement, doubt, happiness, fear. Settle my soul. Help me walk into this day with peace rather than panic. Help me remember that this isn't about the perfect ceremony or the perfect day — it's about the covenant I'm about to make. Help me speak my vows with intention and truthfulness. Help me see my partner not just as the person I'm marrying, but as the person I'm choosing to love and serve for the rest of my life. Make this a day marked by Your presence and blessing. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Father, we stand here before You, our families, and our witnesses to make a promise. This moment is bigger than us. It's sacred. We're asking You to be the foundation of this marriage — not our feelings, which will fluctuate, but You, who are steady and faithful. We're asking for Your help to love each other the way You love us — sacrificially, patiently, truthfully. Like the cord with three strands in Ecclesiastes 4:12, knit us together — him, me, and You. Make us strong enough to face what's coming. Make us brave enough to choose love even when it's hard. Bless this union. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Lord, I'm not praying for a perfect marriage. I'm praying for a lasting one. I'm praying for a marriage that's real and messy and honest. I'm praying for the strength to stay when things get hard instead of bailing when the romance fades. I'm praying for wisdom to know when to fight for it and when to surrender and apologize. I'm praying for grace — so much grace — to extend to the person I'm marrying who will disappoint me, who will fail me, who will sometimes hurt me. Help me remember that Ruth 1:16 says "Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay." Help me mean that. Help us build something that lasts not because we're perfect together, but because we're committed to working through it together with You. In Jesus' name, Amen.

God, this is bittersweet. I'm joyful for my child and terrified for them. I'm watching them leave, watching them choose someone else to be their primary family. I'm so proud of who they've become, but I'm also grieving the loss of the role I've had. Help me let them go with joy instead of fear. Help me release my need to protect them or fix things for them. Help me trust that You have them. Help me see my child's spouse not as someone taking them away, but as someone I'm welcoming into my family. Help me transition from parenting them to walking alongside them. Give us wisdom to respect the new boundaries that are being formed. Give us the grace to stay connected while honoring their independence. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Jesus, I'm happy for them. I really am. And I'm also sad for me. My marriage fell apart. My happily-ever-after didn't happen the way I thought it would. And now I'm watching someone else step into the promise that didn't work out for me. Help me hold both of these feelings at once. Help me celebrate their joy without letting their joy highlight my pain. Help me find healing that isn't dependent on my marital status. Help me know that my worth isn't tied to whether I'm married or whether my marriage lasted. Let me grieve what didn't work while genuinely celebrating what is working for others. And God, keep working toward healing in my own heart. In Jesus' name, Amen.
