Prayer for Rain

God opens the heavens and holds back the rain — He is Lord over all creation.

Prayer for Rain During Drought

Lord God, we come before You in the middle of a dry season — a season where the ground is cracked, the sky is cloudless, and the waiting feels long. You are the One who opens the windows of heaven, and we are asking You now, Lord: please send rain. Not just physical rain for this parched land, but the kind of renewal that only You can bring to every dry and weary place. We know that You see this drought. Nothing escapes Your notice — not a sparrow that falls, not a land that thirsts. You said in Your Word to ask You for rain in the time of the latter rain, and so we are asking. We come with open hands and believing hearts, trusting that You are a God who provides. Lord, break this drought. Let the clouds gather and the rivers fill. Let the reservoirs be restored and the earth drink deeply of what You send from above. But even as we ask for rain in the natural, we also ask that You would break any spiritual drought we might be experiencing — times when Your presence has felt distant, when the Word feels dry, when prayer feels like speaking to a wall. Pour out Your Spirit upon us fresh and new. Let revival come the way rain comes after a long season of waiting — sudden and merciful and full. In Jesus' name, amen.

Prayer for Farmers and Crops

Father, I lift up every farmer and grower before Your throne today. I think of the ones who wake before sunrise, who work with their hands in the soil, who have planted seed in faith and now watch the sky with anxious eyes. They have done their part, Lord. They have tilled and sown and tended. Now we ask You to do Yours — to send the rain that no human hand can manufacture and no budget can buy. You promised in Deuteronomy that if Your people would walk in Your ways, You would provide the rain for their land in its season — the early rain and the latter rain — so that they could bring in their harvest. We stand on that promise today, Lord. We ask You to honor the labor of those who feed families and communities, who keep the land fruitful, who carry a burden most of us never see. Protect their crops from disease and pest and the damage that prolonged drought brings. Let the rain come in the right measure — not so little that it fails to nourish, not so much that it floods and destroys. Give these farmers and their families courage to hold on. Provide for them financially in the lean season. Let them know that You are the God of harvest, and that nothing — no drought, no failed crop, no hard year — is beyond Your ability to redeem. In Jesus' name, amen.

Prayer Trusting God's Timing Over Weather

Lord, I will be honest with You: the waiting is hard. We have prayed for rain and the sky remains clear. We have asked and trusted, and still the drought persists. In this moment, I choose to come before You not with a demand but with a declaration — I trust You. I trust that Your timing is not an accident. I trust that You are doing something in this season that I cannot yet see from where I am standing. Elijah prayed seven times before a small cloud appeared on the horizon. The rain did not come the first time he sent his servant to look. But he prayed again. And again. And again. Lord, teach me that kind of persistent, humble faith. Teach me not to give up because the answer is delayed. Teach me that the waiting season is not wasted — that You are forming something in me through this dry stretch that could not be formed any other way. I release my timeline to You today. I release my anxiety about outcomes I cannot control. I release the worry that things will not work out. You are sovereign. You are good. Your plans do not fail. If rain is coming, it is already on its way. And if this season of dryness continues for a reason I cannot yet understand, I choose to trust that Your mercy is woven through it. Let my faith be the rain that falls in the dry seasons of my soul. In Jesus' name, amen.

Prayer for Communities Facing Water Shortage

God of every nation and every people, I intercede today for the communities around the world — and perhaps near to home — that are facing genuine water shortage. I think of the women who walk miles to carry water, the children who go without clean water for drinking, the towns where wells have run dry and reservoirs sit empty in the heat. You are the God who led Your people through the wilderness and struck water from the rock when they were desperate. You are the same God today. I ask You to move on behalf of every community in crisis. Provide water — through rain, through creative solutions, through the generosity of others, through infrastructure that leaders choose to prioritize. Where human neglect or injustice has made shortage worse, Lord, convict hearts and move people to act. Let those of us in places of abundance be grateful and not wasteful. Open our eyes to the privilege we too often take for granted, and stir in us a generosity toward those in need. Connect people with organizations doing the work of clean water access. Raise up advocates and funders and doers. And for the communities waiting and hurting right now — send relief. Send rain. Send Your mercy. Let them know that they are not forgotten by the God who calls Himself Living Water. In Jesus' name, amen.

Prayer of Praise for God's Provision Through Rain

Lord, I want to stop and simply praise You today for the gift of rain. For the way a dark cloud rolling across a blue sky can feel like a promise being kept. For the smell of earth after the first drops fall. For the way everything green lifts itself toward the sky when the rain comes. For the rivers that rise and the reservoirs that fill and the crops that drink what they have been longing for. You are a God of such extravagant provision. You did not design a world where water is scarce and things struggle and die — You designed a world where the heavens open and give generously. Even when seasons of drought come, they exist against the backdrop of a God whose fundamental posture is one of abundance and care. Every drop of rain that has ever fallen is a declaration of Your generosity. Thank You for the farmers who have seen their fields come back to life. Thank You for the children who have played in the puddles. Thank You for the sound of rain on the roof and the way it pulls us inward and slows us down. Thank You for being a God who tends to His creation with such meticulous love. Help us never to take water for granted. Help us to see rain as we see bread — as a gift from Your hand that keeps us alive. You are our Provider, and everything we have comes from You. In Jesus' name, amen.
