Bless a new year of life with a Scripture-rooted prayer — for yourself, a child, a friend, or the one your heart loves most.
Prayer for Your Own Birthday
Father, today I mark another year of life — and I begin it right here, with you.
Thank you for the year behind me. For every mercy in the hard moments, every joy that caught me by surprise, every time you showed up even when I wasn't looking for you. You were faithful. You always are.
As I step into this new year, I ask you to go before me. Lead me into greater purpose. Deepen my faith. Stretch me in the places where I've been comfortable too long. Heal the places still tender from last year's wounds.
Show me who I'm becoming. I want to grow in wisdom, in grace, in love — to look more like Jesus at the end of this year than I do today.
I don't know what this year holds, but I know who holds it. And that is enough.
Thank you for the gift of life. I don't take it lightly.
In Jesus' name, Amen.
Prayer for a Friend's Birthday
Lord, today I bring my dear friend to you and ask you to pour out blessing on this new year of their life.
You know them completely — their dreams, their fears, the quiet longings they rarely say out loud. You knit them together with intention and purpose, and every year of their life is a gift to the people who know them.
I ask you to bless them with health, with deep peace, and with the kind of joy that doesn't depend on circumstances. Protect them from what would harm them. Open doors this year that no one can shut. And bring them into a closer walk with you than they've ever known.
Where they've been carrying something heavy, be their relief. Where they're longing for something beautiful, be their hope. Where they wonder if they matter, remind them — loudly, clearly — that they do.
Thank you for giving them to us. We are better for having them in our lives.
In Jesus' name, Amen.
Prayer for a Child's Birthday
Father, you gave us this child as a gift, and on this birthday we bring them right back to you.
Thank you for the specific, one-of-a-kind person you made them to be. Their laugh, their curiosity, the way they see the world — it is all from your hand. You designed them on purpose and for a purpose, and we trust that.
As they grow one more year, I ask you to keep their heart tender toward you. Guard them from the things that would harden them too young. Surround them with friends who build them up and keep them on the right path.
Give them courage to be exactly who you made them, even when the world asks them to be someone else. Give them wisdom beyond their years, and a faith that is becoming their own.
Protect them. Guide them. Lead them close to your heart.
Thank you for every single day of their life — we treasure every one.
In Jesus' name, Amen.
Prayer for a Spouse's Birthday
Lord, today I pray for the person you placed beside me — my partner, my companion, the one I have chosen and been chosen by.
Thank you for making them. Thank you for the specific qualities you wove into their personality that complement who I am — the ways they challenge me, love me, and make our life together richer than I could have built alone.
On this birthday, I ask you to bless them abundantly. Where they have poured themselves out for our family, restore them. Where they have carried burdens silently, let them feel carried by you. Where they have doubted themselves, speak truth over their worth and capability.
Give them a year of flourishing — in health, in joy, in the work they do, in the relationships they carry. Bring clarity to any confusion they're sitting with. Bring peace to any anxiety that follows them.
I love them, Lord. Thank you for the gift of knowing them.
In Jesus' name, Amen.
Prayer for a Milestone Birthday (50th, 60th, 70th+)
God of all our years, we pause today at this milestone and we are in awe.
How many mercies it took to bring us here. How many prayers answered. How many times you came through — in the health scares, the financial crises, the relational storms, the grief — and still brought us to today. Still breathing. Still standing. Still yours.
Every decade of this life has carried your fingerprints. We see that now, looking back. The seasons we would have skipped if we could — even those were shaping us into who we needed to become.
As this new chapter opens, we refuse to believe the best is behind us. Your Word says the glory of the latter house will be greater than the former. So we lean into what's still ahead with expectation, not resignation.
Bless these years that remain with health, with purpose, with legacy, and with the deep joy of knowing you more completely than ever before.
The best is still to come.
In Jesus' name, Amen.
